Links and Cool Drinkz updates to new Blogger features. (^...^)
Several guru-types have been poking a sharp stick at audio web sites. All of them agree there is a problem with audio as it's used on the web. Some are really rabid about it and think these webmasters should be treated like porn scumbags. I'll agree 1.) Unless you're visiting a band web site or music site, it's unexpected. 2.) If you're using your computer to listen to iTunes while surfing the web, this unexpected intrusion is annoying. 3.) If it's both unexpected and annoying, it's usually poorly integrated into the site, so it's cheezy. (>_<)
While there are a lot of bad examples, the wonks should take a bath, cuz this stinks. Many of the problems of annoying audio sites can be fixed with applications such as Detour that set independent audio controls for each application. Personally, I find the criticism of audio sites a good subject, but it needs a more critical assessment instead of gross dismissal.
Now, just to make the wonks even more irked, try this web audio experiment. Visit Air King Sound, or 9 Beet Stretch (scroll down for MP3).
Using browser tabs or new windows, open several MP3 audio tracks at once. This works best if you're on DSL or better connection, and will take a minute to cache several files. Notice, these ambient melodies mix surprisingly well. Experiment. Pause one track and notice the change in audio qualities. If you have good speakers connected to your computer's audio out, the change is profound.
